Writing
Writing at Woodside
At Woodside Primary Academy, we want every child to enjoy writing and become a confident, creative and independent writer.
We use Pathways to Write (PTW), a structured mastery-based literacy programme, that supports the National Curriculum for English, for children in KS1 and KS2. (Please see the Early Years section of the website for our approach to early writing.)
PTW uses high-quality books to spark children's imaginations and give them exciting and meaningful reasons to talk, read and write.
Children:
- Build and apply increasingly ambitious vocabulary, grammar and punctuation while learning to write for a wide range of purposes and audiences.
- Develop spoken language skills through drama, debate, role-play and presentations.
- Revisit and apply previously taught writing skills in new contexts.
- As they move through the school, they build on their previous learning and become increasingly confident at planning, writing, editing and improving their own work.

Books That Inspire Our Writing
Throughout their time at Woodside, children enjoy a rich and varied selection of books. These carefully chosen texts introduce children to different authors, characters, cultures, experiences and ideas, while providing inspiration for their own writing.
